SCANDINAVIAN LEADERSHIP

Effective Executive Leadership is based on respect, trust, and empowerment. Values that link Aotearoa New Zealand and Scandinavia.

Welcome to Executive Education and Coaching the Nordic - New Zealand way.

Back in the days of the early kingdoms of Scandinavia, later in history named and known as “Vikings/Viking Lands”, a combination of curiosity and fearlessness led to the development of world-class skills in boatbuilding, sailing, and navigating.

There is a tendency to dwell on the fierce fighting, looting and killing but trading, negotiation skills, and their way of organising was where the old Vikings excelled the most.

To be a successful leader in Scandinavia today, it is essential to have the following mindset; “Let me make it easy for you to develop, produce, and grow… and not be in your way” - combined with low levels of hierarchy and high levels of trust.

People in Scandinavia do not believe in titles, they don’t get intimidated by authorities, and the most skilled people tend to leave the businesses that are mainly driven by KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and fear.

The key components are respect, trust, and empowerment.

KPI’s are fine as milestones and navigation points, but in a leadership context KPIs should stand for:

  • Keep People Interested

  • Keep People Informed

  • Keep People Involved

  • Keep People Inspired
